ALIMIYYAH PROGRAM (COMPREHENSIVE)

 


The Alimiyyah course (often called Dars-e-Nizami in South Asia) is a structured program in Islamic scholarship designed to train individuals in traditional Islamic sciences. It is widely taught in Islamic seminaries (madaris) worldwide and aims to produce scholars proficient in Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Arabic, and related disciplines.

Full Program: 8-Year Alimiyyah Course

This is a traditional, in-depth program designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge of Islamic sciences, including Fiqh, Tafsir, Hadith, Aqeedah, and Arabic language.

  1. Class Format:

    • Talaqqi Sessions: Interactive live sessions held 2-3 times a week with a focus on traditional oral learning and personal engagement with the teacher.
    • Exams: Exams are conducted at the end of each term to assess your progress.
  2. Certification:
    Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a recognized certificate marking your achievement and graduation as an Alim/Alimah.

Levels:

Here’s a brief overview of its typical levels:


1. Intermediate Stage (Sanaviyyah `Aammah/Secondary)

  • Focus:
    • Advanced Arabic grammar and rhetoric (Balagha).
    • Detailed study of Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence) and Usul al-Hadith (Principles of Hadith).
    • In-depth study of Islamic history and ethics.
    • Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) and selected texts of Fiqh (jurisprudence).
  • Core Texts: Books like Mukhtasar al-QuduriMishkat al-Masabih, and Tafsir al-Jalalayn are often studied.
  • Duration: 2 years.

2. Advanced Stage (Sanaviyyah `Aliyyah/Higher Secondary)

  • Focus:
    • Further specialization in Hadith and Fiqh texts such as Sharh al-Wiqayah and Riyad al-Salihin.
    • Detailed study of logic (Mantiq), philosophy (Hikmah), and Tasawwuf (spiritual sciences).
    • Mastery in interpreting classical Islamic legal and theological texts.
  • Core Texts: Works like Hidayah (a core Hanafi Fiqh manual) and Nur al-Idah.
  • Duration: 2 years.

3. Specialization Stage (Darajatul Takhassus/Bachelor Level)

  • Focus:
    • Advanced study of six authentic Hadith collections (Sihah Sittah), including Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
    • Detailed commentary on Tafsir and Usul al-Fiqh texts such as Al-Muwatta and Al-Tafsir al-Kabir.
    • Ifta studies (Islamic legal verdicts) for those specializing in Fiqh.
  • Duration: 2 years.

4. Postgraduate Studies (Takhassus and Ifta')

  • Focus:
    • Specialization in Fiqh, Hadith, or Quranic sciences.
    • Training to issue legal verdicts (Ifta).
    • Research and thesis writing in Islamic jurisprudence or theology.
  • Duration: 1–2 years, varying by institution.

This curriculum nurtures scholars equipped to address contemporary Islamic issues while rooted in classical traditions. Its structure may slightly vary depending on the region or school of thought (Hanafi, Shafi’i, etc.).
